The City of Thomasville retained Smith Planning Group (SPG) to provide planning and engineering services related to the master plan development of a 14 mile multi-use trail intended to connect various historical and recreational parks within the city limits. The project is part of an urban redevelopment initiative in Thomasville and the master plan will incorporate solutions to revitalize the community parks.Included within the scope of this project are 6 historical parks that SPG has been charged with analyzing park inventory and level of service as well as developing park programming for: MacIntyre Park, Northside Park, Paradise Park, Cherokee Lake Park, Wesson Park, Flipper Park.
Following the successful execution and reception of the Landmark Trail Masterplan, SPG was commissioned by the City of Thomasville for the design and planning of a trailhead park to serve as a community gateway to their 14-mile multi-use trail. The planning process involved multiple community meetings, consultations with the downtown development authority and key community leaders. SPG diligently worked to develop and refine the trailhead plan while upholding and improving upon stakeholders wishes. Concepts presented include interactive splash ground, open air amphitheater, downtown streetscape enhancements and ample parking and circulation. Other services included design, rendering and architectural construction drawings for trailhead restroom and storage facilities.
